Jamie Carragher has taken to Twitter to give his reaction to speculation that Jurgen Klopp’s Liverpool are about to sign Moises Caicedo from Brighton and Hove Albion.
The Athletic has reported that Liverpool are set to complete the signing of Brighton and Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo.
Liverpool will reportedly pay Brighton £110 million in transfer fees for the 21-year-old Ecuador international midfielder.
The former Premier League and UEFA Champions League winners had earlier signed Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton.
Midfielder Mac Allister won the 2022 Qatar World Cup with Argentina.
Jamie Carragher’s verdict on Moises Caicedo – Liverpool rumour
Former Liverpool defender Carragher has given his take on speculation that Caicedo is about to move to Anfield.
The Sky Sports pundit has said that Liverpool owners, Fenway Sports Group (FSG), are paying a lot of money for Caicedo.
However, Carragher has noted that FSG had to pay that kind of fee.
After all, the Reds have lost midfielders Fabinho and Jordan Henderson already this summer.
We believe that Liverpool are paying more than they should have for Moises Caicedo.
There is no doubt that Caicedo has a lot of potential, but he is just 21 and has made only 45 appearances in the Premier League so far in his career.
Is it worth paying over £100 million for a player just because of his potential?
We do not think so.
However, as Carragher has noted, Liverpool simply had to pay that sum for Caicedo.
After all, Brighton are an established and well-run club in the Premier League who do not have to sell their best players if they do not want to.
