Joel Matip and Thiago Alcantara, two seasoned Liverpool players, have expiring contracts this summer. According to a source, signing Thiago Alcantara to a new contract is the Reds’ main priority.
The Anfield club just had a significant player turnover throughout the summer. A number of well-known midfielders left and were replaced by similarly well-known newcomers in a transfer revolution.
Jordan Henderson, the team’s captain, and Fabinho, a player for Brazil, were among those who left the pitch. They both joined the influx of European superstars that moved to the Saudi Pro League, but the Gulf State’s football administrators weren’t content with just those two Liverpool players.
The Saudis also tried to lure Mohamed Salah to the Middle East, but the Reds refused to budge despite the eye-watering sums reigning Pro League champions Al-Ittihad were prepared to offer. Interest in Salah remains, but he isn’t the only one courted by the Saudis.
Journalist Rudy Galetti claims that Saudi Arabia has “concrete and real” interest in the soon-to-be-out-of-contract Thiago. The seasoned midfielder was previously rumored to be leaving in September for Turkey, and it was always assumed that he would go on his own terms the following summer.
Galetti, though, thinks that this won’t always be the case. Joel Matip and Thiago Alcantara’s contracts expire in 2024, thus Liverpool added negotiations about their futures to their agenda, according to what he said to Tribal Football.
