Liverpool could be handed a timely transfer boost after Chelsea’s failed move.
After losing the likes of Fabinho, Jordan Henderson, James Milner, Alex Oxlade Chamberlain and Naby Keita, Liverpool have brought in Alexis Mac Allister from Brighton and Dominik Szoboszlai from RB Leipzig.
Over the last few weeks, Liverpool have been hampered by Chelsea in their pursuits of Moises Caicedo and Romeo Lavia.
Liverpool agreed a fee with both Brighton and Southampton but the players decided to move to Stamford Bridge rather than Anfield.
As a result, the Reds have been forced to look elsewhere and are closing in on a deal to sign Stuttgart’s Japanese international Wataru Endo for a reported fee of around €19 million.
In addition, Liverpool could now be handed a timely boost after Chelsea failed in their own pursuit of Crystal Palace winger Michael Olise.
On Tuesday, it was reported that Chelsea had activated the Frenchman’s £35 million release clause.
However, it was confirmed on Thursday afternoon that Olise has signed a new four-year contract with the club.
This latest development could in turn help Liverpool after they were linked with Palace midfielder Cheick Doucoure.
It was reported prior to the Olise news that Jurgen Klopp is a fan of Doucoure and that the club are stepping up their efforts to secure the 23-year-old.
However, it was claimed that Palace are wary of losing too many players having already lost talisman Wilfried Zaha and midfielder Luka Milivojevic.
Now, with Olise staying at the club, Palace could be tempted to part ways with Doucoure if Liverpool put in a suitable offer.
It has been previously reported that the Eagles are looking for around £60-£70 million for the Malian.
Apart from Doucoure, Liverpool are also said to be interested in Fulham’s Joao Paulinha and Nice midfielder Khephren Thuram.
The Reds will be back in Premier League action this weekend as they host Bournemouth at Anfield on Saturday afternoon.
