Leicester easily defeated Southampton, winning 4-1 at St. Mary’s.
Jamie Vardy gave the Foxes the lead after only 21 seconds, and before the halfway point of the first half, Kasey McAteer doubled their advantage thanks to more shoddy Southampton defense.
The Saints subsequently got one back through Samuel Edozie, but Wilfried Ndidi restored the two-goal advantage in stoppage time of the first half, and Stephy Mavididi sealed the victory on the clock at the 67-minute mark.
On Friday night, Leicester romped to win at Southampton after Jamie Vardy gave them a 1-0 lead after just 21 seconds.
After Kamaldeen Sulemana’s late dismissal, Southampton concluded the game with just 10 players, making it yet another miserable evening. For at least a day, Leicester returns to the top of the Championship.

After the 5-0 loss at Sunderland, Southampton was forced to wait two weeks before moving on, so when Vardy put Leicester ahead after some deft combination play with Mavididi, you had to wonder what they were up to.
The Saints then played some even worse defense after 18 minutes. Once more, they made a mistake by giving the ball away deep in their own end, allowing Kiernan Dewsbury-Hall to find McAteer, who outran Gavin Bazunu.
Then Leicester gave themselves a lifeline when Callum Doyle made a mistake at the back, allowing Che Adams to feed Edozie, who dribbled in a goal after 25 minutes.
Before the half, though, the two-goal lead was restored when Mavididi made a good pass and found Ndidi. Ndidi then evaded Taylor Harwood-Bellis and fired through Bazunu.
It was a fourth for Leicester with a quarter of the game remaining. Mavididi surged forward after a quick break gave him the freedom of Southampton’s half, where he slipped the ball past Bazunu.
Sulemana was sent off for a hasty late challenge on James Justin, which made an already dismal evening much worse. Sulemana handed the ball away for Leicester’s fourth goal.

“I challenged the guys to compete against an extremely strong team. It was an extremely good game between two excellent teams, in my opinion. By giving up two goals in the first period, we made things very difficult for ourselves. We did a fantastic job of coming back into the game, and the third goal just before halftime was a great killer.
“They score on their chances, but we don’t. People will talk about the score and read anything they want into it, but if we were clinical tonight, the game was much closer than the score indicates because they were very clinical and we weren’t.

“I’m overjoyed. I’ll start with the outcome and performance. We saw how it worked with players like James Justin, who hadn’t played much before today, and with the players that came off the bench. Due to the fact that we will require 25 participants to finish the season.
Jamie is not a play, I found out! His record bears testimony to itself. He is a significant contributor—possibly the most significant player we have. However, we also have Patson Daka and Kelechi Iheanacho, so we need to work on managing those players up front. However, I’m glad he scored since a striker’s goal is what matters most. His work for the team has also made me pleased.
