Report: Karl Darlow is currently feeling disappointed at Leeds United after being compelled to wait.

Karl Darlow is already ‘disappointed’ at Leeds United after being forced to wait.

We’re thrilled to welcome former England goalkeeper Paul Robinson as our exclusive contributor, as he’ll be providing his thoughts on the most pressing issues at Leeds United each week…

After Illan Meslier’s surprise stay at Elland Road, Karl Darlow will be “disappointed” not to be Leeds United’s first-choice goalkeeper this season, but will eventually “come in as number one,” according to Paul Robinson.

The 32-year-old joined from Newcastle United earlier this summer, with many expecting him to be Daniel Farke’s permanent number one, with Meslier rumored to be on the move. Since then, the Englishman has only made two League Cup appearances, including their stunning exit against Salford City.

Darlow’s Championship experience was certainly a huge factor in Leeds’ decision to sign him, having played three full seasons in the second tier with Nottingham Forest and a half-season loan at Hull City last season.

While Darlow may be unhappy by his lack of playing time, Robinson claims that he will “bide his time” and likely receive more minutes under Farke, through a Meslier sale, or if the Frenchman’s form dips again.

Robinson told MOT Leeds News exclusively: “I think Darlow will be disappointed, but he’ll wait his turn.”

“He’s a very good, experienced goalkeeper who has played at the highest level.” Darlow has a lot of Championship experience, and being at a team like Leeds United isn’t a terrible thing.

“It’s a huge football club, and with Meslier’s potential, whether it’s in January or at the end of the season, I suspect he’ll leave and Karl will potentially take over as number one.”

“If that happens, or if Leeds are promoted, you’re back in a Premier League squad, whether you’re number one or on the bench, which isn’t ideal for him because he’s not playing.”

“I suspect he came thinking he was going to play, but he isn’t; it hasn’t worked out that way.” However, he is not in a bad circumstance.

“Listen, we saw Meslier have a huge dip in form and confidence towards the end of last season, so if he has three or four games like that, the manager can turn around knowing he’s got a very good experienced quality goalkeeper on the bench that if needs be.”
