Wilfried Gnonto returns to Leeds United training after Everton bids rejected
Wilfried Gnonto has returned to first-team training with Leeds United after his attempts to force through a move to Everton proved unsuccessful.
Gnonto, who only made the move to Elland Road last summer, is said to have been the subject of a number of failed bids from the Blues this summer and earlier this month lodged a written transfer request in an attempt to seal a move to Goodison Park.
But after such efforts proved unsuccessful and the Italy international missed Leeds’ first three games of the Championship season, Gnonto, according to The Athletic, returned to training at Thorp Arch on Tuesday after productive talks with manager Daniel Farke and CEO Angus Kinnear.
The decision to reintegrate Gnonto comes after Leeds stood firm in their valuation of the forward, who came under fire from fans before and after last week’s game against West Brom, and later revealed was the subject of an “internal disciplinary matter” after he refused to travel to match against Birmingham City earlier this month.
Meanwhile, on Tuesday, Gnonto’s agent, Claudio Vigorelli, slammed the Elland Road outfit for the handling of the sage and claimed they had been “blocking requests” from the Premier League.
Back on Merseyside and Sean Dyche’s side are in desperate need of attacking reinforcements after failing to score against Fulham or Aston Villa in either of their opening Premier League fixtures so far this season.
