Chelsea ‘likely’ to complete £20m transfer as update emerges over Moises Caicedo alternative

Leeds transfer news: Leeds United star Tyler Adams is reportedly edging closer to completing a move to Stamford Bridge following relegation

Chelsea are reportedly planning to push ahead with their interest in Leeds United’s Tyler Adams.

The USMNT midfielder has been linked with a move away from Elland Road ever since the Whites were relegated from the Premier League. A number of clubs have been reported to be interested in Adams, though no formal bid has been made

Adams only transferred to England last summer when Leeds paid £20million for his services from RB Leipzig. However, he was unable to keep the club in the Premier League having missed the final two months of the campaign with injury.

Now, Mauricio Pochettino’s men are lining-up a move for the 24-year-old. It’s been reported that Adams has a £20million relegation release clause in his contract in Yorkshire, a relatively cheap fee.

And according to The Athletic, the Blues will step up their interest in the United States international. Phil Hay, who covers Leeds United, has claimed that Chelsea are ‘increasingly likely’ to sign Adams.

Chelsea, of course, remain interested in Brighton midfielder Moises Caicedo. However, after seeing their fourth bid – worth £80million – turned down, other players are being identified to bolster Pochettino’s midfield.

Premier League rivals Aston Villa have also been credited with an interest in Adams. Unai Emery’s men have been busy in the transfer market this summer, signing the likes of Youri Tielemans, Moussa Diaby and Pau Torres.

Adams missed Leeds’ opening Championship fixture against Cardiff City, but he was present at Elland Road. It’s unclear whether he will feature in Wednesday’s EFL Cup tie with Shrewsbury Town or Saturday’s trip to Birmingham City.

There is a £20m release clause in his Whites contract following the club’s relegation, which football.london’s Chelsea correspondent Bobby Vincent reports Pochettino’s side are ‘ontemplating paying but will bide their time with no decision being made just yet’.
