Ipswich 3-2 Wolves: Championship side complete epic comeback to knock out EPL O’Neil’s men

Ipswich Town defeated Wolves 3-2 in the third round of the Carabao Cup after falling down by two goals.

For their Carabao Cup third-round match at Portman Road, both teams made 10 substitutions.

High-flying Ipswich, who are presently second in the Sky Bet Championship, were the only team to retain their starting lineup from last weekend’s 4-3 victory over Blackburn with goalie Vaclav Hladky as the lone goalkeeper.

In the interim, Wolves manager Gary O’Neil made a change by bringing up backup goaltender Dan Bentley and appointing him as captain.

Pedro Neto was replaced by Hwang Hee-Chan after being benched during Saturday’s 1-1 draw with Luton.

Hwang’s goal for Wolves at Ipswich in the fourth minute gave the visitors the perfect start.

Pablo Sarabia’s cross was only cleared by Dominic Ball to Sasa Kalajdzic and the Wolves forward played the ball through to Hwang, who drilled past Vaclav Hladky for his fourth goal of the season.

Hwang helped Wolves make the perfect start at Ipswich when he fired the visitors ahead in the fourth minute.

Dominic Ball was the only one to clear Pablo Sarabia’s cross to Sasa Kalajdzic, who then passed the ball to Hwang, who hammered it past Vaclav Hladky for his fourth goal of the year.

Omari Hutchinson, a loanee from Chelsea, helped Ipswich close the gap in the 28th minute.

Hutchinson was given a clear shot at goal by Marcus Harness, and the attacker fired past Bentley of Wolves to make it 2-1.

Seven minutes before halftime, Freddie Ladapo’s fourth goal of the year gave Ipswich a point.

Again, Harness was the creator with a brilliant ball into Ladapo, who made a quick turn before Bentley, the Wolves goalkeeper, could stop his shot.

Ipswich completed the turnaround in the 58th minute when Jack Taylor smashed home from 25 yards.

Harness again claimed the assist after he passed into Taylor’s path but the summer recruit did the rest with a superb strike from range too good for Bentley to put the hosts 3-2 ahead.
