Packers quarterback Incentives worth millions are at stake for Jordan Love against the Bears.
A large portion of quarterback Jordan Love’s prospective 2024 salary was contingent on incentives when the Green Bay Packers decided to offer him a one-year extension rather than exercise his fifth-year option last winter. Let’s examine what Love has to lose in the season finale as there is only one week remaining in the regular season.
Love is currently in a safe area to increase his $6 million cash flow for the upcoming season by $2 million in escalators. The next incentives are either close to being achieved or have already been secured:
In addition to the $2 million already awarded, Love may be able to earn an additional $2.5 million through individual performance escalators based on how well he performs against the Chicago Bears in Week 18. The escalators that Love can easily reach are listed below:
Although Love would have to put on a really amazing show to reach those completion percentage targets, it is still feasible for him to do so. In addition to the performance escalators for each player, Love will receive a salary increase of $500,000 in 2024 should the Packers advance to the playoffs. Recall that Green Bay’s game against the Bears is win-and-in, so a convincing victory over Chicago would raise Love’s escalators from $2 million to $6 million. An additional $4 million would appear to be more than enough incentive for a player who has earned $19.9 million in the NFL overall to have a successful finish to the regular season.
There are more ways for Love to earn more money the next season if the Packers make it to the playoffs. If Green Bay wins the NFC or the playoffs, they will also pay out an additional $500,000. Gaining a Super Bowl victory would increase salary by an additional $1 million.
