Coach Brian Daboll says Tommy DeVito will remain the New York Giants starting quarterback
AP/EAST RUTHERFORD, NEW JERSEYEven if veteran quarterback Troy Taylor is prepared to return off injured reserve, Tommy DeVito will continue to start for the New York Giants.
Prior to the Giants (4-8) beginning practice for their home game against the Green Bay Packers (6-6), on Monday night, coach Brian Daboll made the announcement on Tuesday morning.
After losing his first start in Dallas, DeVito, an undrafted rookie free agent, has started the last three games for New York and guided it to victories over Washington and New England.
According to Daboll, Taylor, 34, handled the situation like a pro and DeVito has earned the right to continue starting.
After Daniel Jones suffered a neck injury in early October, Taylor assumed the starting position for the Giants. At the end of the month, the 13-year veteran suffered a rib injury versus the Jets and was placed on injured reserve.
DeVito took over after Jones suffered an ACL injury during the first half of his return game in Las Vegas. Since the Raiders game, the New Jersey native who attended Syracuse and Illinois has been in charge.
With 66 of 105 throws completed, DeVito has 697 yards, seven touchdowns, and three interceptions.
