While accepting some responsibility for the loss to Luton Town, Dominic Calvert-Lewin “fully expects” a better Everton performance against Bournemouth.
The striker stated that the team, including himself, were poor goal scorers in a statement made on the official Everton website on October 2 following the squad’s dismay following the 2-1 loss to relegation rivals Luton Town.
On Saturday, October 7, the Toffees welcome the Cherries to Goodison Park in search of their first home victory of the year, while Andoni Iraola’s team is only one point behind.
What Calvert-Lewin Said.
We are dissatisfied and disappointed that we didn’t perform as well against Luton, said Calvert-Lewin. We entered the game with a lot of confidence, but we were penalized for losing focus on set-pieces, which made it very challenging for us to get back into the game.
We had opportunities, but I felt like we should have been more ruthless and clinical, especially in the first half.
I want to be clear that it is not panic stations because it is still early in the season. It just wasn’t our day, despite the fact that we fully expected to play better against Luton and achieve a better outcome.
Responsibility
It was hard to accept Luton’s loss. Everton had been riding high after winning two games in a row across all competitions for the first time in more than a year when it happened.
Sean Dyche received a reality check from the Hatters, but a prospective home game against Bournemouth is a great opponent to try and rack up more points.
Very little should be regretted for Calvert-Lewin. The Englishman has scored three goals in just 251 minutes of play this season, despite the fact that the entire team was shaky against Luton, especially in front of goal.
Many questioned if Dyche could rely on him this season due to his history of injuries, most recently a facial injury suffered against Aston Villa in the second game of the campaign. The 26-year-old has made a strong case for himself as the Toffees’ greatest striker option, surpassing recent additions Beto and Arnaut Danjuma.
If Everton wants to escape the relegation zone, they will primarily rely on Calvert-Lewin to keep scoring goals. Chances are being produced as the Toffees have tried 108 attempts this season, which is the sixth-highest number in the league, they just need to be converted Premier League.
