Alex Iwobi, an Everton midfielder, will likely miss three weeks due to an ankle ligament injury he suffered during Friday night’s FA Cup loss to Manchester United.
After a scan, the Goodison Park team confirmed the news and stated that their medical staff will “manage conservatively” Iwobi’s injury.
Tyrell Malacia challenged Iwobi, who was taken off on a stretcher early in the second half at Old Trafford.
Frank Lampard, the manager of Blues, will be devastated by the news because he has started the Nigerian in all but one of the team’s 21 games this season across all competitions.
A three-week layoff, though, might have been far worse for an Everton team that is currently in the relegation zone.
With his more central midfield role this season, Iwobi has perhaps been Lampard’s best player.
Iwobi might rejoin the new Everton boss
Now, all that’s left to see is whether the Chelsea icon will still be in charge when Iwobi comes back from his absence.
Since Goodison has gone eight games without a win, including six losses, the head coach has come under more and more pressure.
Farhad Moshiri, the majority owner, is reportedly considering a former boss and a local hero as possible successors.
Currently serving as DC United’s MLS head coach is Wayne Rooney. But Moshiri thinks he’s the kind of person who could walk in and just by his presence energize the club.
Martinez, on the other hand, left his post as Belgium’s coach following the World Cup and is currently looking for a new job.
Sean Dyche is another name under consideration; however, despite his long tenure at Burnley, he is viewed more as an outsider.
In a crucial six-pointer for relegation, Everton will host Southampton on Saturday when they return to action.
