Report: Everton now think their ‘unique’ player is worth more than £60m

Former Everton winger Andros Townsend is now wanted in Saudi Arabia and the USA as the 32-year-old continues his search for a new club.

The ‘brilliant’ 32-year-old left Everton after a two-year spell in June as a free agent and there is now a ‘potential move’ to either the Saudi Pro League or MLS.

That is according to Fabrizio Romano, who took to Twitter to report the news, stating: “Andros Townsend, attracting interest on the market as a free agent after parting ways with Everton in June.

MLS and Saudi clubs approached him over potential move but race remains open. One to watch.”

Townsend seemed a promising signing for Everton, but injury and age were against him

Townsend moved to Goodison Park in July 2021 after the expiry of his contract at Crystal Palace and hit the ground running, providing an assist on his Premier League debut in a 3-1 win over Southampton.

The former England international then won the September Premier League Goal of the Month Award for a stunning 30-yard strike as the Toffees overcame Burnley in a 3-1 Goodison Park victory.

However, the winger suffered anterior cruciate ligament damage in March 2022 during a 4-0 defeat in the FA Cup to his former side Crystal Palace, ruling him out for 13 months.

Consequently, the 32-year-old was allowed to leave as a free agent earlier this summer but is yet to find a new club.

Townsend recently had a trial at Burnley, though the Lancashire club decided against offering the former Everton player a contract ahead of the 2023/24 Premier League season.

Everton meanwhile recently added winger Jack Harrison to the squad on a season-long loan deal from Leeds United, making him the club’s fourth singing of the summer so far.

Indeed, the Toffees have also brought in free agent and PL veteran Ashley Young, forward Arnaut Danjuma who joins on loan from Villareal, and young striker Youseff Chermiti, who joined from Sporting CP
