Just In: Everton made January approach to Racing Club before £12m-plus Southampton transfer is a Must

Before Southampton finalized the £12.3 million purchase, the Evening Standard journalist revealed on his personal Twitter account on October 6 that the Toffees, Brighton, and Crystal Palace had all made approaches to the Argentinian team.
Despite interest from Palace, AC Milan, and Benfica throughout the summer following Southampton’s relegation, the Argentine wonder decided to stay at St. Mary’s. However, a January transfer is still a possibility due to Brentford’s interest.

Smith tweeted: Brentford wanted to sign Carlos Alcaraz before he joined Southampton, and they are still interested in him.

Opportunity lost

Alcaraz could easily be excused for thinking he made the incorrect team choice during the January transfer window now that Southampton is competing in the Championship.

The Saint was a sinking ship when he moved to St. Mary’s, so his multi-million dollar choice was all the more puzzling.

But given how desperately Everton has needed a creative midfielder during Sean Dyche’s time at Goodison Park thus far, it’s a huge missed chance on their end.

Alcaraz is a player with exceptional skills and potential, and he has already shown what a star he can develop into for the team by making several standout cameos in the Premier League before to Southampton’s relegation. In 18 games, he scored four goals and provided two assists.

It’s unfortunate that those skills are getting more attention in the English top division, but it doesn’t mean he won’t transfer in January. In fact, considering Everton’s troubles to score goals and make plays, Alcaraz might wind up being a big acquisition in the winter if they decide to compete with Brentford.
