Journalist Paul Gorst claims that Liverpool defender Trent Alexander-Arnold became enraged after match officials did not intervene in response to an alleged elbow from Everton striker Beto.
Alexander-Arnold believed that during Liverpool’s 2-0 victory at Anfield on Saturday, October 21, he was purposefully caught by Everton substitute Beto.
In an October 22 piece for the Liverpool Echo titled “Moments you may have missed,” Gorst provided information about what transpired following the incident.
The Liverpool vice captain went down loudly after colliding with Everton striker Beto, and he was seen screaming at the fourth official, indicating that he had been elbowed in the face, he wrote.
The Reds defender made a gesture toward the touchline referee, plainly thinking that the Blues attacker had elbowed him. He was incensed that more had not been said about it.
Despite Alexander-Arnold’s obvious frustration, referee Craig Pawson did not think it was good enough to give it another look.
Alexander-Arnold was not the only cry baby who threw his temper at the referees; he did the same thing early in the second half after Liverpool was given a penalty call.
Amazingly, the vice captain of Liverpool escaped a warning from Pawson even though he confronted the referee.
Though Alexander-Arnold’s fervent attempt to presumably have Beto sent off was absurd, you can not blame him for displaying passion in a Merseyside derby.
There was little in the incident, so much so that the officials did not feel the need to look back at what happened.
Naturally, it was a day to forget for Everton as they lost 2-0 and Beto only had one shot in his roughly thirty minutes on the pitch.
The Toffees now need to get over this quickly and bounce back with a win away at West Ham the following weekend.
