He is a Good player: Sean Dyche lauds Everton’s ‘adaptable’ performance against Villa last night.

Sean Dyche was amazed by James Garner’s performance against Aston Villa.

Everton manager David Moyes confirmed to evertontv that Garner has been ‘terrific’ since scoring his first goal for the club over a year ago.

On Wednesday evening, the Toffees won their third game of the season in all competitions, defeating a weak Aston Villa side to go to the Carabao Cup fourth round for the first time in three years.

Everton fielded what was arguably a full-strength lineup and traveled to Villa Park to face a starting XI that was missing only a few key players such as Ollie Watkins and Boubacar Kamara.

The latter was ultimately introduced and scored the consolation goal for the hosts, but Garner and Dominic Calvert-Lewin’s earlier goals were enough to secure the victory.

Garner’s goal was his first since scoring for Nottingham Forest in the Championship in April 2022, but it rounded off another outstanding performance from the midfielder.

Garner has started every Premier League game for Everton this season with the exception of one, and he has certainly got Dyche’s attention, as he was keen to praise him last night.

“I think he’s been terrific and he’s had to adapt,” Dyche stated. “I’ve said many times that himself and these guys are constantly learning about what they can do.

He is adaptable and can play in a variety of positions. He deserves a lot of credit, and I thought he was excellent again tonight.

At Villa Park, James Garner was permitted to revert to his natural position in central midfield, while Jack Harrison finally made his debut on the wing after being sidelined since joining on loan from Leeds United.

While Sean Dyche has benefited from the 22-year-old’s versatility, fans will be eager to watch him thrive alongside Amadou Onana after the two linked up superbly for the first half goal.

In what should be two highly winnable games against Luton Town and Bournemouth, the pair have a fantastic opportunity to impress and control the midfield.
