The head coach of the first team, Steve Stone, spoke exclusively to ECHO Everton about Sean Dyche’s management team.
Everton first team coach Steve Stone has highlighted how the ‘trust’ between manager Sean Dyche, assistant Ian Woan, and himself allows the squad to be brutally honest with one another and make the best decisions for the club.
After nearly a decade of working for Dyche at Burnley, Stone and Woan joined him to Goodison Park at the end of January along with head of performance Mark Howard. The trio of Everton managers
the two met when they were young at Brian Clough’s, thus their bond goes back even deeper.
Stone, who later went on to make 229 appearances and score 27 goals for the East Midlands team, believes that those enduring ties also assist to characterize their professional relationship.
He admitted to the ECHO that they had been friends for a very long time. We moved in together while I was an apprentice gaffer; I had met him when I was 14 years old.
“We can trust one another and take each other at our word. Even while the gaffer unquestionably has the final say in everything we do, you’ll discover that we’re all really dissimilar people when you meet us.
In terms of how we were as players and how we are now as characters, we are different characters. As a result, we provide a unique perspective on the game.
Woany will provide an entirely new team structure and expectations for the game.
I might entirely disagree with my team and choose a different course of action. Then, we would present it to the management while explaining our reasoning. It is not enough to simply state, “I believe that,” as there must be a reason with information over why we think about things.
