Everton were humiliated by Aston Villa last time out. Unai Emery’s side cruised to a 4-0 win at Villa Park on Sunday. Sean Dyche could only watch on helplessly as his Everton midfield was overrun and their defensive contingent collapsed in on itself.

James Garner played the full 90 minutes for Everton, but could do nothing on the right flank to stop the onslaught. The result marked the Toffees’ second defeat of the Premier League season with just two games played, and has left the Merseyside club rooted to the foot of the table.

Also without a point, but slightly ahead of Everton on goal difference, are Wolves, who travel to Goodison Park this weekend. Garner and his Everton teammates will be desperate to bounce back from their loss to Aston Villa with a much-needed positive result over Wolves.

The Everton squad will still be hurting from their hammering at Villa Park. However, they need to pick themselves up and rebuild their confidence quickly.

Garner reveals Everton players suffered in dressing room

Of course, straight after the match, the mood in the Everton dressing room was low. Garner has opened up about how the players reacted to their thrashing.

As quoted by The Liverpool Echo, the £15 million midfielder said, “there was a lot of talk in the changing room. I’ve only been here for a year but a lot of the lads have been here for quite a while now. Some lads have suffered for two years now in this team and have lost quite a few games that we feel we should be winning. We had a big discussion after the game, now it’s time to put things right and hopefully this is the season to start that.”

Having come close to relegation last time out, the pressure is on Everton to have a better season this time around. If results don’t improve quickly then Dyche could soon find himself fighting for his job.

Garner himself will be desperate to have an impressive campaign. The 22-year-old has huge potential and could prove to be a star for Everton if he can find his best form.
