An update on Manchester United’s interest in Everton defender Jarrad Branthwaite for a prospective 2024 move was provided by Fabrizio Romano.
After making an impression when playing on loan for PSV Eindhoven last season and then emerging into Sean Dyche’s starting lineup this season, 21-year-old defender Branthwaite has been linked with a transfer away from Goodison Park.
Man City have been mentioned, but the Red Devils are the ones who are reportedly most interested. Romano stated on his Daily Briefing Substack on October 5 that Erik Ten Hag’s team won’t be prioritizing him in January or next summer.
He said: “While they still need a CB in 2024, my knowledge is that the three main candidates being evaluated are Antonio Silva, Jean-Clair Todibo, and Edmond Tapsoba. The Everton defender has been the subject of rumors connecting him with Manchester United.
Of course, it’s common to see a number of players linked, but since my post earlier this week, there has been no fresh information.
Branthwaite is an outstanding defender, and there is no question that with a better team, he would be given more credit for his prowess with the ball than he is at the moment.
It should come as no surprise that we’re attempting to persuade him to sign a new, long-term contract since it would also safeguard his worth at this point, where he should concentrate most on playing often with us.
He would be better served to remain where he is and play frequently until he is judged to be good enough to be that player. Considering our present standing in the table, we need him to be a member of our team.
Since the links won’t disappear, it’s definitely one to watch, but perhaps Everton can work something out to keep us out of problems.
