EVERTON ACCEPT BID WITH TOFFEES MAN SET FOR MEDICAL AT LEAGUE LEADERS

Everton have agreed to sell Tom Cannon to Championship leaders Leicester City as Sunderland miss out on the striker. According to The Athletic, Leicester City have won the race for a centre-forward who impressed during a loan spell at Preston North End in the second half of last season.

Tom Cannon, an impressive finisher inside the penalty area, will have a medical with the Foxes on deadline day after Everton accepted their £7.5 million bid.

Sunderland’s dreams of bringing Cannon to the Stadium of Light have been dashed. Tony Mowbray, the manager of the Black Cats, has made no secret of his desire to sign a new center-forward to replace Ross Stewart, should the Scotland international join Southampton before tonight’s transfer deadline.

“I would suggest that (Stewart) cannot be sold,” Mowbray tells The Chronicle. “Unless a knight in shining armor rides through the door.” That’s what I’d expect and hope for.

“I’d think if Ross left, we’d have a striker for the future.” To be honest, I’m not sure what will happen to Ross.”

“The scenario hasn’t changed for me,” adds Mowbray. “He’ll either be here after Friday or not.” Or we make a big bid for him and spend the money on strikers who will make the difference for us.”
