A rare luxury was available to Everton manager Sean Dyche during their victory against Bournemouth.
On Saturday, the Toffees easily defeated their fellow relegation contenders, winning 3-0.
After a convincing victory, Dyche—who acknowledged that he hasn’t enjoyed many recent Premier League games—was able to unwind.
“I think the fans have seen signs, and the fans that I speak to, we are not talking about the internet warriors; we are talking about fans who have been here for years,” he remarked, as reported by the Liverpool Echo.
“They tell me, ‘We can see the signs.’ It is just annoying that we can see it even if it has been there for a few years. The narrative needs to be altered.
“I informed them that the narrative had to be altered. Though those performances begin to alter the narrative, that is our obligation. That is what we must keep doing.
However, I believe that the ardent Evertonians are aware of this; they are aware of excellent performances. The majority of people that approach me say things like, “We get it, we can see the performances, but we have to win because they want to win.” Without a doubt, my motivation is to win; that is why I compete.
“I’m not happy doing it. Believe me when I say that this is not always a happy job. It’s the satisfaction you get from winning.
“It’s going to be a relaxing night for me because I go right, okay, that’s what I expect from the players, and you get what you want and want.”
“I just think, yeah, it gives you that nice warm glow, that nice relaxing feeling. I’m not screaming around, jumping for joy.” It all tastes a little bit better. That’s how things work.
That’s the reason you do it. You indulge in it for these times. My job is not a single game; it’s a season’s worth of labour.
You take a step ahead and ask, ‘What else can we add? What training elements can we add? What steps can we take going forward to increase the likelihood that it will work?
