Beto has come under fire from Alan Smith for his actions during the first period of Everton’s 3-1 victory over Brentford on Saturday (September 23).
When the Portuguese forward lost a one-on-one opportunity with the Bees goalie Mark Flekken, the commentator felt it was a “bad mistake” on co-commentary for Sky Sports (06:07pm).
The 25-year-old missed the chance to give his team the lead against Brentford at halftime, adding that it was “long way from being a clean connection,” but an outstanding second-half effort gave the Toffees a 3-1 triumph in West London.
Misses his kick big time, said Smith. “I don’t know if it was a double hit, he’s hit it onto his standing leg – whatever it was, it was a bad mistake from Beto.
He must fancy he’s got it in him today to get a goal. He’s just hooked it wide – a long way from being a clean connection. He hits it into the ground.
No composure
Beto had a great opportunity to score his first Premier League goal and give Everton the lead again after they had just lost it after a Mathias Jensen goal tied the score.
But after being played in behind, he utterly lacked poise when it mattered most, scuffing his shot just wide of the post.
The Portuguese player must really be converting on those chances as he was hired to score the goals that will keep the Toffees out of trouble this year.
The Blues’ problem hasn’t been necessarily making chances, as the game against Brentford showed once again, it’s just converting in the key moments that has alluded them.
It was, however, a great run from the forward and you would like to think that, if he continues getting in behind defences, he will find the back of the net more often than not.
