The Detroit Pistons snapped their 28-game losing streak with a victory over the Toronto Raptors, narrowly avoiding unwelcome history.

The Pistons won their first NBA game since October 28th, 129-127, behind the scoring of Cade Cunningham, who had 30 points and 12 assists.

Their record-setting losing streak reached 28 games, which is the longest in NBA history.

In the event of a loss against the Raptors, the record for the longest losing streak in major US professional sports would have been tied.

The current Arizona Cardinals, formerly known as the Chicago Cardinals, hold the record for most consecutive losses in a season with 29 from 1942 to 1945.

Bojan Bogdanovic scored 19 points and grabbed 17 boards for the Pistons on Saturday. Jalen Duran scored 18 points and grabbed 17 boards, and Kevin Knox II scored 17 points.

“We simply kept battling,” Cunningham remarked, describing his experience as the Top Pick in the 2021 NBA Draft. “It’s been a long, long stretch—all these losses—but I’m just pleased to be a part of a bunch of guys that don’t stop and bring it every day and still stay positive and support each other.”

In addition, he mentioned that the weight of the situation has been a constant companion for the past two months, which he found unbelievable.

“It was a long time coming, something that we’ve been striving for for so long and to finally get over that hump, we’re not trying to go back. At last, the moment has arrived when we can see clearly what our future holds and decide whether or not to keep dabbling in the same fire.

Elsewhere, it was not a pleasant birthday for LeBron James, whose Los Angeles Lakers fell 108-106 to the Minnesota Timberwolves.

The Timberwolves’ Anthony Edwards scored 31 points in 38 minutes for the hosts, while James, who turned 39, scored 26 points.

In Indianapolis, Tyrese Haliburton became the first player in 33 years to score at least 20 points and 20 assists in consecutive games as he led the Indiana Pacers to a 140-126 triumph over the New York Knicks.

With his 22 points and 23 assists, he joined Hall of Famers Magic Johnson and John Stockton as only the third player in NBA history to achieve the feat.

Luka Doncic led the Dallas Mavericks to a 132-122 victory over Stephen Curry’s Golden State Warriors, but there were wins too for the Chicago Bulls and Utah Jazz.
