A former Detroit Lions player lands the lead role in an upcoming movie…

Ameer Abdullah spent portions of four seasons in Detroit after the Lions selected him in the second round of the 2015 draft. He appeared in 35 games for the Lions, running the ball 327 times for 1,251 yards and six touchdowns. He also grabbed 57 receptions for 420 yards and three TDs.

After the Lions dismissed Abdullah in 2018, he spent parts of four years with the Vikings and then one half season with the Panthers. He was with the Las Vegas Raiders each of the past two seasons.

But today, Abdullah is aiming to break into a different world: television and movies. According to a release, he has landed a main part as “K-Money” in “Break the Cycle,” an urban drama penned by former NBA player Jarnell Stokes.

Abdullah will work alongside Cuba Gooding, Jr., an Oscar-winning actor. Former NFL tight end Vernon Davis is among the others joining the ensemble.

Production will begin in March.

“This film is a heart-pounding trip into the world of streetball that examines issues of family, ambition, and the moral intricacies of urban life,” Stokes said. “It recounts the story of traveling a perilous path, an awful reality for far too many young males in our metropolitan areas. I’m very pleased to have Ameer as part of this extremely brilliant group of actors that will help bring this film to life.”
