In the League Cup, Man Utd defeats Palace while Wolves and Luton clash.

Manchester United defeated Crystal Palace 3-0 on Tuesday to advance to the League Cup fourth round while fending off the naysayers.

Erik ten Hag, the manager of United, and his team have come under fire for the team’s subpar start to the year.

However, they managed to achieve a second straight victory following their narrow Premier League triumph against Burnley on Saturday to at least somewhat lessen the burden.

In the first half, Alejandro Garnacho gave them the lead, and Casemiro doubled it just before halftime. Anthony Martial then sealed the triumph in the second half.

The end of United’s six-year trophy drought in February when they won the League Cup was hailed as the beginning of a new era of success at Old Trafford.

Instead, a number of issues both on and off the field have consumed United.

Ten Hag was under increasing pressure until the last four days gave a glimmer of hope after losing three of their first five league games and seriously jeopardizing their title ambitions.

Before the game, Ten Hag made a point of cheering the crowd and waving to everyone in Old Trafford, setting the mood for an encouraging evening as his choice to make seven substitutions paid off.

After leaving United a month prior, Dean Henderson was making his Palace debut. However, the goalkeeper’s homecoming lasted only 19 minutes as he went off hurt.

Sam Johnstone, Henderson’s substitute, was forced to retrieve the ball from the goal shortly after entering the game as United grabbed the lead in the 21st minute.

After receiving a cross from Diogo Dalot, the Argentine winger turned and fired a low shot past Johnstone from a distance of 10 yards.

Six minutes later, Casemiro extended United’s lead by reaching the highest point to meet Mason Mount’s corner with a glancing header that gave Johnstone no chance.

Martial buried United’s third goal from Casemiro’s cross in the 55th minute.

Sofyan Amrabat of Morocco excelled in his first appearance following his last-minute loan transfer from Fiorentina, giving Ten Hag more motivation.

Luton was rocking

With a shocking 1-0 loss against third-tier Exeter, Luton’s challenging start to the season reached a new low.

Luton had a fairytale promotion to the Premier League last year, but they haven’t won in their first five games.

On Saturday against Wolves, Rob Edwards’ team earned its first point of the year.

Demetri Mitchell scored Exeter’s winning goal in the 83rd minute with a close-range strike, but Edwards’ decision to make 10 substitutions ultimately backfired as he was dismissed in the dying seconds.

The second Premier League team to make a humiliating departure was Wolves, who lost to Ipswich 3-2 after blowing a two-goal lead

In contrast to the Championship’s top team, Gary O’Neill made 10 substitutions, and his understudies quickly took the lead due to goals from Hwang Hee-chan and Toti Gomes in the opening 15 minutes.

However, Omari Hutchinson, a Chelsea loanee, pulled one back in the 28th, and Freddie Ladapo tied the score seven minutes before halftime.

When Jack Taylor hammered in from 25 yards in the 58th minute, Ipswich had completed their comeback.

Burnley trounced Salford, a fourth-tier team owned by former Manchester United stars David Beckham and Gary Neville, 4-0.

Salford had defeated Championship clubs Preston and Leeds in the first two rounds, but a winless Burnley squad in the Premier League put an end to their giant-killing feats.

Sander Berge scored with a goal in the 12th minute after 11 substitutions by Burnley manager Vincent Kompany, and then Jacob Bruun Larsen scored his first goal since moving from Hoffenheim.

Wilson Odobert’s late goal sealed the thrashing after Dara O’Shea’s goal in the 27th minute.
