The Dallas Cowboys’ owner, Jerry Jones, said at the conclusion of the previous season that the team would be going “All In” for the next one. Instead, they have appeared to be doing the exact opposite, letting go of a number of their best players and failing to sign any significant free agents.
Since the contract negotiations with Dak Prescott are becoming increasingly strained, there have been rumors that the organization would select a quarterback in the first round. In advance of the 2024 NFL Draft, Jerry Jones shared his thoughts on his standout quarterback with the media on Wednesday.
Jerry Jones Wants To Retain Dallas Cowboys Player Dak Prescott
Many observers have projected that the Cowboys may select a quarterback in the first round to replace Dak Prescott, with the Draft just a day away. But Jerry Jones intervened and declared that would never happen.
Although it has been difficult for both parties to offer Prescott a long-term contract, Jones has made it very apparent that he wants Dak as his quarterback. Despite the fact that Dak is approaching the end of his deal, Jones claimed he is still wanted in Dallas.
Jon Machota of TheAthletic.com reported that Jones stated, “We want Dak Prescott.” That’s all there is to it. I think Prescott’s growth from the previous season was greatly influenced by Mike [McCarthy]. That improvement gave me hope that there is more to ultimately succeeding in our endeavors. I think the question really gets it.
Is Jerry Jones Able to Retain Dak Prescott?Jones went on for a very long time on how much he loves Dak and will do all in his power to stay in Dallas.
“Dak is what we desire.” We believe that more development is possible. When a team with plenty of cap space has a quarterback for a short period of time who is far below the terms of his rookie contract—San Francisco was that way last season, and we had Dak shortly after we had Tony Romo—boy, we used a lot of credit card money on Romo.
We were able to absorb that money and keep Tyron [Smith] close to him because Dak came along and made it unnecessary for us to have it. Dak has therefore had some of the best supporting casts surrounding him throughout his impressive career, of which we are proud.
However, it is somewhat odd that, despite all of the rumors, a deal has not yet been completed as Dak approaches the end of his contract. Jones acknowledged that the Cowboys are having trouble keeping Prescott, Micah Parsons, and CeeDee Lamb.
Although Jones expressed skepticism about the team’s ability to sign every player on their roster, he still believes Dak can be signed to a contract.
He stated bluntly, “Dak, as the quarterback of the of the Cowboys, I don’t even have a blink on that one.”
With the 24th pick in the first round, the Cowboys will have a fascinating choice in who they select. Over the past ten years, Dallas has produced excellent draft picks.
