Update: Chelsea must start Moises Caicedo against Luton

Now – thanks to The Athletic – we have been given some insight about what Chelsea think of Moises Caicedo‘s debut…

What’s the story?

Well – understandably – Chelsea are not that bothered about the South American’s eventful debut.

It would be ridiculous to jump to conclusions on Caicedo after a cameo which lasted less than 45 minutes, and rightly so, Chelsea are not panicking.

The Athletic believe Chelsea feel like they have made a major statement by signing the Ecuador international, and it is said that even his calamitous debut has done little to dampen the excitement surrounding him at Stamford Bridge.

Clearly, the Blues think they have a potential superstar on their hands in Caicedo – and we agree.

The Athletic add that Chelsea also believe they made a huge statement when beating Liverpool to Romeo Lavia – with Enzo Fernandez already in west London, the Blues now have a mouthwatering midfield.

In our view, Mauricio Pochettino should hand Caicedo his first start for Chelsea on Friday against Luton.

With all due respect to the Hatters, a clash against the Championship Play-Off final winners at Stamford Bridge represents a relatively straightforward game on paper.

If it does go that way, the encounter with Luton would be a nice way to ease Caicedo into the starting XI, as he attempts to build up match fitness following a disrupted pre-season, as a result of the uncertainty surrounding his future.

Hopefully, Chelsea fans get to see the Ecuadorian in action on Friday, and he can guide the Blues to a first win of the 2023/24 campaign.
