Chelsea target Gabri Veiga is now moving to Saudi Arabia after agreeing to join the likes of Edouard Mendy and Roberto Firmino at Al Ahli.
That is according to Fabrizio Romano.
So, what is the situation involving Chelsea and Gabri Veiga? Let’s take a look…
What’s the story?
Well, it was the Guardian who claimed that Chelsea were considering a move for the Spain Under-21 international, who has a £34m release clause in his contract with Celta Vigo.
The Evening Standard actually stated that Mauricio Pochettino wanted Veiga as a replacement for Mason Mount.
Now – however – Chelsea will not be signing the Spanish wonderkid.
Romano believes Veiga has agreed to join Al Ahli after the Saudi Pro League side had a bid accepted for the 21-year-old.
It represents something of a shock development, as it was only a matter of days ago that Napoli were apparently getting very close to signing the Porriño-born prodigy.
Veiga put his name up in lights last season with 11 goals and four assists in 36 La Liga appearances, including a double against Barcelona on the final day of the 2023/24 campaign to save Celta Vigo from relegation.
Who Chelsea could sign instead of Gabri Veiga
Pochettino appears keen to inject a bit of creativity into his Chelsea side by signing a new attacking midfielder.
There was concrete interest in Michael Olise before he chose to sign a new contract at Crystal Palace.
Mohammed Kudus was also an option for the Blues, although he is now close to joining West Ham – again according to Romano.
Deals for Rayan Cherki or Bradley Barcola – both owned by Lyon – are still possible for Chelsea, with Romano adding that the Blues could hijack PSG’s move for the latter.
Be sure to keep an eye on developments at Stamford Bridge, as we expect more business to occur before next Friday’s transfer deadline.
