Chelsea are now set to make a bid to recruit £25,000-a-week Premier League star

Chelsea are set to make a move for Brighton’s No. 1 goalkeeper Robert Sanchez after making initial inquiries about him earlier this summer.

According to the Express’ Charlier Parker-Turner.

So, what is the most recent news about Robert Sanchez and Chelsea? Let us have a look…

What’s the story?

Well, it was Nathan Gissing who first revealed that Chelsea had now decided to pursue the Spain international, as Mauricio Pochettino aims to find competition for Kepa Arrizabalaga this summer.

Now, Parker-Turner has added further details.

It is said that Chelsea asked Brighton about Sanchez earlier this summer but chose not to firm up their interest with an official bid of any kind.

However, the Blues have now decided that the £25,000-a-week glovesman is the best available option on the market for them, and are expected to make a concrete move for his signature.

Parker-Turner adds that Ben Roberts – Chelsea’s Goalkeeping Coach – is keen on a reunion with Sanchez, who he worked alongside at Brighton for a number of years.

Brighton are believed to be open to selling the Cartagena-born glovesman, and are even willing to loan him out.

Robert Sanchez would be ideal competition for Kepa Arrizabalaga at Chelsea

In our view, Sanchez would be the ideal competitor for Kepa given the circumstances.

The Spaniard is not currently Roberto De Zerbi’s No.1 choice in between the sticks at Brighton after Jason Steele took his spot in the second half of last season, and the Seagulls have since spent £16.3m to sign another competitor in Bart Verbruggen.

Therefore, Sanchez would arrive at Stamford Bridge with a point to prove, which provides Pochettino’s squad with healthy competition.

Of course, some Chelsea fans would probably like to see a more exciting name arrive, but given the circumstances, this would be a sensible deal for the Blues, especially as Pochettino doesn’t need to rotate too often with no European football on the schedule for next season.
