Very intelligent’: Alan Shearer thinks Chelsea have made a really ‘good signing’ for next season
He told ‘The Rest is Football’ podcast that he can see the Blues challenging for top four again this season.
There is an element of optimism surrounding this upcoming season for Chelsea, and the majority of this has stemmed from Pochettino being in charge.
Following the dire campaign which was predominantly overseen by Graham Potter, a bounce back is absolutely required this season.
There has been a sensational clear out in West London already too. Former key players such as Mason Mount, Kai Havertz and Mateo Kovacic have all been moved on in an attempt to move into a new era.
Pre-season left supporters with plenty of optimism ahead of the new campaign. They went unbeaten during their tour of the United States for the first time in over 12 years.
He said: “I think that was a good signing Pochettino. I think he is a very intelligent, clever manager and they are not going to be as bad as they were last season.
“I don’t see them challenging for the title. I think if they can go from where they were last season to then challenging for the top four again that would be success for them.”
It will not take long for the Blues to face their first real challenge of the season, with them set to go up against Liverpool on the opening day of the season.
With Jurgen Klopp’s side pushing for top four too, they will be hoping that they can make a statement on Sunday.
