‘Stole the jersey,’ declares Simon Donnelly, ‘amazing’ A Celtic player is now a…

Football’s capacity to conjure up Cinderella tales is what I find so appealing. You understand what I mean. The one romantic historical event that fans adore. The Celtic supporters saw it with Anthony Ralston two seasons ago. Until Ange Postecoglou came on board, the Hoops defender’s Paradise career appeared to be over.

Ralston himself would confess that the club’s need for a rebuild and a dearth of defensive depth were factors in his good fortune. But Ralston fully exploited the situation, and the rest is history.

For Liam Scales, the same is true. This summer, the adaptable defender appeared to be headed for Aberdeen until a defensive injury crisis took hold. And hasn’t he simply sparkled, my goodness?

Simon Donnelly, a former Celtic legend, thinks Brendan Rodgers would choose him for the first team right now.

[Official Celtic FC Podcast] quoted Donnelly as saying, “[Liam] Scales has just stamped his authority on that position. He really took the jersey from a couple individuals who had entered the room and may have been keeping an eye on it. Thus, it is up to the other players to move him in some way.

This season, Liam Scales has excelled for Celtic.

Recently, TBR Celtic published a stat article on Scales to highlight how crucial he has been for Celtic this year.

The article only demonstrates how Scales used a trying circumstance at Celtic to his advantage.

But to merely claim that Scales’ continued selection for Celtic is due to the injury issue would be an enormous disservice to him.

Brendan Rodgers has a choice between Yuki Kobayashi, Nat Phillips, and Gustaf Lagerbielke. But it is very evident that the Celtic boss has great faith in the Irish defender to continue playing the club’s central defensive position.

Scales has the jersey, and Donnelly is right—he should keep it. The other Celtic players must establish their merit before being chosen above the ‘excellent’ 25-year-old.

Unfortunately, I don’t think Scales will be eager to let it go, which is bad for them. May that last for a very long time.
