A crisis is about to brew with Rangers’ appointment of a Celtic-like manager.

Ange Postecoglou and Kevin Muscat have already made news as candidates for the position of future Rangers manager. The 50-year-old Australian manager, who played for a season at Ibrox during his playing days, succeeded the now Tottenham Hotspur manager at Japanese club Yokohama F Marinos.

It’s been said that Kevin Muscat is open to taking over as manager of Rangers after Michael Beale was fired, and he now appears interested in doing so.

Combining this with rumors that Kevin Muscat is on a short list of managers Rangers wish to speak with over the open Ibrox position, there now seems to be some fire to the smoke.

Kevin Muscat is a potential nightmare for the Rangers.

Although Kevin Muscat may have shown his credentials in Australia and Japan, the Rangers job is unquestionably quite different, and I have serious doubts that the coach is the right choice for the position.

Not least because the Rangers Board opens itself up to harsh criticism in the event of an unimaginable loss by following in Celtic’s footsteps.

Even though Kevin Muscat is an intriguing manager, Rangers should not give him any consideration because of his lack of European management experience.

The Rangers board must be completely confident of the next manager they choose, and while no management appointment can be assured, there is already enough uncertainty around Kevin Muscat to perhaps throw him out of the race.

I believe that Rangers need a solution that comes from a little bit closer to home, or at least from the continent, and that the players will respect in terms of background, presence, and style.
