Burnley overcame Luton Town 2-1 at Kenilworth Road thanks to a goal from Johann Brunn Larsen in the 85th minute, giving the Clarets their first Premier League victory of the year.
Five minutes from the end, Larsen cut in from the right and sent a beautiful shot into the top corner to end a tight game in Bedfordshire.
Lyle Foster’s composed finish past Thomas Kaminski in first-half stoppage time gave Burnley the lead. Sander Berge had done well to set him up.
Reece Burke headed on Tahith Chong’s cross for substitute Elijah Adebayo to finish on 84 minutes for Luton, and it appeared that the game would conclude in a tie until Larsen’s late heroics.
The Clarets had a difficult start to the season with only one victory in their first six games, but they are currently tied for first place with their hosts on points, while the Hatters are still in 17th place on goal differential.
Story of the match
After five minutes, Taylor sprinted down the left and entered the area, where he found Zeki Amdouni, but Tom Lockyer made a crucial stop before the Swiss could fire.
The Luton goalkeeper then made a wonderful save on Amdouni’s header that was headed for the roof of the net before it was deflected for another corner.
Josh Brownhill nearly started the scoring with a curling shot that narrowly missed the crossbar as Burnley continued to play well.
Amdouni was once more posing a serious threat, and when he burst free on the outside of the box, he was unable to convert because the Clarets lacked the finishing touch.
The Hatters ought to have scored first, just past the halfway point.Issa Kabore’s cross was narrowly misdirected by Chiedozie Ogbene from close range.
Burnley did made the breakthrough as halftime drew near. Foster received a beautiful through pass from Berge, raced into the area, and beat Kaminski in the bottom corner.
At the beginning of the second half, the Luton goalkeeper had to be alert as he stopped Luca Kolesho’s half-chance.
Morris, who has three of the Hatters’ five goals so far this year, almost missed tying the score at the opposite end when he flicked a corner kick over the crossbar.
The finest opportunity for the home team came from Jacob Brown, whose header looped over Burnley goalkeeper James Trafford and appeared to be headed in, but Josh Cullen headed the ball wide.
With 20 minutes remaining, Vincent Kompany substituted Brunn Larsen and Aaron Ramsey for Amdouni and Koleosho.
Adebayo’s close-range goal in the 84th minute gave Luton their chance to tie the score, but just one minute later, Brunn Larsen scored the game-winning goal after cutting inside on the right and finding the far corner.
He performed in a fantastic display, utilising his physicality at every turn, getting forward from his midfield position frequently, and playing Foster in for the opening goal. His transfer from Premier League rivals Sheffield United is beginning to look better with each passing encounter.
