In a recent edition of “Nightcap,” former NFL greats Chad Johnson and Shannon Sharpe got into a heated argument about the transaction and had a significant argument.
Johnson disagreed, saying the Texans were fortunate to make the playoffs the previous season and calling them a “ready-made squad.” Sharpe agreed.
Johnson went on to say that fans should observe how Josh Allen’s stats suffer in Buffalo without Diggs and that the Chiefs of Kansas City, not the Texans or Bills, would be viewed as a ready-made club.
Though it’s unclear exactly what “ready-made” means in this context, Sharpe seemed to be saying that both circumstances were perfect for a top receiver to enter, perform well, and contend for a championship.
Diggs leaves behind a Bills squad without much skill at wide receiver after also losing Gabe Davis to free agency. Diggs joins a wide receiver room already packed with excellent young talent in Nico Collins, Tank Dell, and John Metchie III.
This was just a pleasant, passionate debate, which is what Johnson and Sharpe are always good for.
On this one, it’s difficult to support Johnson because the Texans have every indication of winning the AFC in the near future. They have a young, dynamic head coach, a young quarterback who is a threat, a solid left tackle, and young players spread out over the defense.
