Browns making a mistake by bringing back a familiar face, York?

Re-signing kicker Cade York will allow the Cleveland Browns to add a familiar face to their squad, a league source told News 5.

York, a fourth-round pick in 2022, shot to fame in Cleveland with his game-winning 58-yard field goal in Week 1 of that 2022 season, which gave the Browns their first winning start to a season in eighteen years.

York had moments of difficulty throughout his rookie campaign, missing numerous game-winning plays. Although York entered the 2023 season with a fresh outlook, the Browns traded for Dustin Hopkins after York missed four field goals in the preseason the previous year.

York chose to start again with the Tennessee Titans last season, joining their practice squad after being cut by the Browns, who were hoping to re-sign him to the roster. York has since played for the Giants and Titans.

York will join Hopkins on the team after being signed by the Browns and sent back to Cleveland. He will offer depth and a camp experience as the team gets ready to start summer training. Starting on April 15, the Browns can start their offseason training regimens.

According to a source, free agent kicker Cade York re-signed with the Cleveland Browns on an undisclosed contract on Saturday.

York, who was drafted by the same team in 2022 in the fourth round (124th overall) out of LSU, will be rejoining them after a rookie season in which he only made 24 of his 32 field goal attempts and 35 of his 37 extra-point tries in 17 games.

After being cut by Cleveland during training camp the previous summer, the 23-year-old kicker was left on the practice squads of the Tennessee Titans and New York Giants for the duration of the season.

Entering offseason workouts, Dustin Hopkins and Lucas Havrisik of the Browns already occupy the position; York will only be fighting for a spot in Cleveland this summer. He’s no longer on anyone’s fantasy radar.
