John Dorsey, the new general manager of the Cleveland Browns, takes over for Sashi Brown, the team’s executive vice president for football operations, who was let go earlier in the day.
John Dorsey was formally introduced as the new general manager of the Cleveland Browns on Thursday night.
Dorsey takes over as the team’s executive vice president for football operations, succeeding Sashi Brown, who was sacked earlier in the day. According to reports, the 57-year-old Dorsey will be given a four-year deal and made public on Friday during a press conference.
In a statement, Dorsey stated, “I thrive on every facet that goes into producing a good football club. Football is what I know, it is what I enjoy, and I have worked my whole career at.” “Having played for two teams with illustrious histories for the most of my football career, I believe I have a good understanding of Cleveland’s fan base’s mindset and what it would take to get this team back to its former level of success. Additionally, I’ve quickly come to understand Jimmy and Dee (Haslam)’s fervent desire to deliver a winning club to the city; if I hadn’t felt that the proper ownership was in place, I would not have accepted the position. I can’t wait to collaborate with Hue, his team, and our people department to help us give these fans the success they so well deserve.
Before being let go this past June, Dorsey, a former linebacker for the Green Bay Packers, managed the Chiefs as general manager from 2013 to 2016 and oversaw the team’s draft in 2017. During that period, he added a wealth of skill to the Kansas City team by selecting players like Marcus Peters, Tyreek Hill, Travis Kelce, and Kareem Hunt.
Between 2013 and 2016, the Chiefs had a 43-21 record under Dorsey, which was the fourth-highest winning percentage in the NFL.
The team released a statement from its owners, Dee and Jimmy Haslam, saying, “We are excited to have John Dorsey head our football operations.” “John is well-known for his football skills, having spent 26 years in the NFL, winning two Super Bowls, and creating winning, long-lasting teams. We are aware that we have a significant and advantageous chance to significantly influence this football team’s foundation in the near future. Our chances of developing a successful football club are greatly increased by adding someone with John Dorsey’s calibre, expertise, and winning record—which has been and now is what we want for our supporters.
In June, the Chiefs fired Dorsey, a decision that shocked a lot of people. However, Albert Breer of Monday Morning Quarterback claims that Dorsey’s exit from Kansas City had less to do with his output and more to do with his personal contract situation.
A search company has reportedly been evaluating Dorsey for the last month, according to Rapoport. Former general manager of the Browns, Mike Lombardi, also affirmed Cleveland’s interest in Dorsey, predicting that the team’s current opening would not last long.
