Following Nick Chubb’s injury, Kareem Hunt returned to the Browns.
Following All-Pro Nick Chubb’s season-ending injury, the Cleveland Browns are bringing back Kareem Hunt to help shore up their backfield, a source informed ESPN’s Adam Schefter on Wednesday.
The source told Schefter that Hunt had accepted a one-year contract worth up to $4 million.
Together, Hunt and Chubb became one of the NFL’s most formidable running-back tandems during their four seasons of play.
Hunt will be partnered with Jerome Ford, a second-year running back who took Hunt’s spot as Chubb’s backup earlier in the season.
Hunt was targeted by Cleveland mostly because of his experience with the Browns’ scheme, even though Ford is anticipated to be the team’s starting back moving forward.
With the Browns from 2019 to 2022, Hunt ran for 1,874 yards. He scored 16 rushing touchdowns and averaged 4.2 yards per carry. Moreover, he grabbed 132 passes for 973 yards and seven additional touchdowns.
The resident of the Cleveland area requested a move last season after the Browns refused to give him a contract extension. Hunt played out the season in Cleveland, though, as the team was unable to come to an agreement before the trade deadline. Hunt has visited several organisations since March, such as the Indianapolis Colts and New Orleans Saints, but he has stayed a free agent.
During the second quarter of the Pittsburgh Steelers’ game on Monday night, Chubb suffered a left knee injury. Off the pitch, he needed to be carried. This week, Browns coach Kevin Stefanski stated that surgery would be necessary for Chubb’s ailment.
Stefanski remarked, “You don’t replace Nick Chubb.” “That’s just not what you do. Great players in the league tend to disappear when you glance around. A player the level of [Chubb] is never replaced by one person. As a result, everyone needs to exert a little bit more effort everywhere.”
