Grant Williams, the new Dallas Mavericks forward, praised his previous coach, Ime Udoka, despite the fact that Udoka’s time with the Boston Celtics did not end well. Williams praised Udoka in an interview with Emily Austin of The Hoop Chat, crediting him with changing the course of his career.

Udoka, according to Williams, was a vocal and expressive coach who was both critical and supportive of his players. He also mentioned that Udoka was good at X’s and O’s, which made him a well-rounded coach. Udoka’s relatability as a former player and ultimate competitor was recognized by Williams.

Williams credited Udoka with transforming his career and how he viewed himself as a player. During Udoka’s tenure as the Celtics coach, Williams saw a significant increase in his minutes, performance, and game starts. In the 2021-22 season, Williams averaged 7.8 points, 3.6 rebounds, and 1.0 assists in 77 games, including 21 starts, compared to his stats in the 2020-21 season with the Mavericks.
