Birmingham City boss Wayne Rooney makes Ipswich Town claim ahead of weekend clash

In his first game as Birmingham City’s manager, Wayne Rooney will try to win the championship match between Birmingham City and Ipswich Town this coming Saturday.

Birmingham City’s three games under new manager Rooney have ended in defeat.

Rooney took over with the team in sixth place, but last weekend’s 3-1 loss to Southampton dropped them to 14th place in the Championship standings.

Ipswich Town, meanwhile, is enjoying being back in the Championship and is now in second position. The Manchester United legend Wayne Rooney was all praise for the man in charge, former United coach Kieran McKenna, before to this past weekend.

As reported by the East Anglian Daily Times, Rooney said:

“Kieran is an exceptionally talented young coach who also had an excellent learning curve at Manchester United.” He’s been instrumental in their promotion at Ipswich. Clearly, they are off to a fantastic start to the season.

“Without a few notable players, they are a good squad. They are following his instructions like a team. He’s got plenty of time to develop that mindset and grow into it. That is what can be achieved in terms of working with the players and having that play identity.

‘A good team who’ve got no superstars’…

This is an interesting comment from Rooney. Ipswich are a very good and well-organised side and it could be argued that they don’t have the same kind of standout players that the likes of Leicester City have; though this comment may be taken out of context by some fans.

And Rooney also hints at the fact that McKenna has been given time at Ipswich and that he should be given the same amount of time to implement his own ideas too.

Though whether Rooney can replicate what McKenna is doing at Ipswich Town remains to be seen; Blues are a long way off competing at the top of the Championship table right now.

Tomorrow’s game should be a very interesting one nonetheless, with kick off at 3pm
