Brian Snitker, Braves Agree to Contract Extension Through 2025 Season
The Atlanta Braves said on Friday that they and manager Brian Snitker have come to a contract extension that will last until the 2025 campaign.
Since 2016, the 67-year-old has been the team’s manager, going 542-451. Including a 2021 World Series championship and five consecutive National League East titles, Atlanta has qualified for the playoffs in each of the last five years.
The previous season’s Braves team finished 101-61, but they were defeated by the Philadelphia Phillies in the division series, and the Phillies went on to win the NL East.
In 2018, Snitker played a key role in a remarkable comeback in Atlanta as the Braves went from a 72-90 record to a 90-72 record, igniting their winning streak. For his achievements, he was named National League Manager of the Year.
After signing with the Braves as a non-drafted free agent in 1977, he is about to begin his 47th season with the franchise. Snitker has coached at the Triple-A, Double-A, Single-A, and rookie-league levels over the most of his tenure with the Braves. He also briefly served as the big league team’s third base and bullpen coach.
Before being called back to the major leagues in May 2016 to temporarily replace fired manager Fredi González, Snitker managed the Triple-A Gwinnett Braves from 2014 to 2016. Following the 2016 campaign, he was named the full-time manager.
Atlanta seems to have a bright future, especially with Snitker leading the team. A number of the team’s talents, including as outfielders Ronald Acuña Jr. and Michael Harris II, first baseman Matt Olson, and third baseman Austin Riley, are also signed long-term contracts.
Atlanta is now anticipating the 2023 season, which begins at the Washington Nationals on Thursday, March 30.
