Deal Agreed: Alex Anthopoulos gives classic response to Braves interest in…

There has been back and forth among MLB insiders on the Braves’ interest in Shohei Ohtani.

Jon Morosi of MLB Network has often stated that Alex Anthopoulos is still in communication with Ohtani and his representatives. The Braves should not be disregarded in the Ohtani sweepstakes, he said most recently.

This led to a contradictory report from MLB.com’s Braves beat reporter Mark Bowman, who claimed that the Braves and Shohei Ohtani had not held meaningful talks.

In cases like this, I usually take Bowman’s side. Even though he might not have any inside information, he is usually well-informed and knows where the team is going. Even though it’s all for nothing, there is still hope as long as Ohtani is a free agent. Alex Anthopoulos enjoys the Braves’ close-knit approach to matters.

That’s not going to change as long as Anthopoulos is the general manager in Atlanta, so his reaction to a question at this week’s MLB Winter Meetings regarding the Braves’ interest in Shohei Ohtani should come as no surprise.

I mean, someone had to ask.

Naturally, Alex Anthopoulos will never talk about ongoing talks with anyone, especially in front of the public. That would be misleading to all parties concerned, but it would be particularly misleading to Ohtani and his team, who have made it clear they do not want any information on meetings or ongoing talks to leak.

The less we hear about this scenario, the better. Ohtani’s camp is operating in the same manner, and the Braves never provide information.
