Birmingham City have confirmed Remi Allen’s return to the club after a loan spell at Aston Villa as their fourth signing of the summer.
Birmingham City have confirmed the signing of midfielder Remi Allen on a free transfer following her recent exit from local rivals Aston Villa.
The 32-year-old had a spell with the Blues between 2014 and 2016 and she’s now set to return to St Andrew’s on a two-year deal. Allen left City to join Reading before she had a spell at Leicester and then eventually joined Villa in 2021.
She made 25 appearances across her two seasons in Claret and Blue but suffered an ACL injury in April last year and faced almost a year on the sidelines before she briefly returned to action at the back end of last season. Villa confirmed her departure in May and Allen will now become Darren Carter’s fourth signing of the summer window.
“I’m extremely excited,” she told Blues TV. “It’s been a long time since I was here, so it is nice to be back in the building.
“There is still a familiar feeling for me here, I’m loving it. I always had a feeling that one day I would come back. The Club have been brilliant, and talking with Carts and what he sees for me, I think we are the perfect fit as a collective.”
During her previous spell with the Blues, Allen scored the only goal in the first leg of the UEFA Women’s Champions League quarter-final against Arsenal and featured in the semi-final of the competition against Tyreso in the 2013/14 season.
City have already signed 18-year-old Katie Dungate following her departure from Chelsea, as well as goalkeeper Charlotte Clarke and 27-year-old Ellie Mason. They also completed a permanent deal for Charlie Devlin after she spent last season on loan with the club from Leicester City.
Carter’s side finished second in the FA Women’s Championship last term, just a point behind eventual winners Bristol City. The Blues will hope to go one step further next term and earn promotion to complete a return to the WSL after two seasons in the second division.
