West Ham United traveled to Villa Park today to face Aston Villa in the Premier League, with Jamie Carragher serving as co-commentator.
The Hammers have been excellent this season, but Villa have also been excellent, and they were simply too much for us today.
Lucas Paqueta has been an important player for David Moyes this season, and he provided countless moments of enchantment as well as some less than stellar performances today.
He has been left out of the last two Brazil rosters due to an ongoing investigation into alleged betting violations, but there is a drive in his native country to get him back into the national team squad.
The South American is capable of creating utter beauty from nothing, and one thing he did today in particular astonished Carragher…
MORE STORIES ABOUT WEST HAM
34-year-old veteran who scored 34 goals for West Ham strikes incredible goal from 40 yards away.
Jamie Carragher was taken aback by something a West Ham player did against Aston Villa.
Carragher was surprised by Paqueta’s performance at Villa Park today, which was shown live on Sky Sports (Sunday, October 22nd, 5:18pm).
Paqueta nutmegged Boubacar Kamara on the edge of his own box in the 23rd minute, and Carragher was taken aback by his brilliance:
Paqueta then did Kamara up like a kipper with a brilliant inside pass to Edson Alvarez, and Carragher swooned:
He is certainly a really special skill, but I believe he takes excessive risks at times, and he cost us today with a bit of showboating that wasn’t really necessary at the time.
There’s no denying that the 26-year-old is a true superstar. However, I believe he should be more selective about when he shows off with the ball at his feet.
Hopefully, he learned his lesson today. But, don’t forget, this game is about entertainment, and he provides it in spades to the spectators.
Jamie Carragher definitely adores West Ham’s star, and we do as well.
