Unai Emery’s Aston Villa are reportedly set to miss out on the signing of Matej Kovar from Erik ten Hag’s Manchester United.
Earlier this month, there was speculation that Aston Villa wanted to sign Matej Kovar from Premier League rivals Manchester United in the summer transfer window.
The Daily Mail reported this month that Villa are looking for cover in the goalkeeping position and want to sign Kovar.
Idnes in Kovar’s native Czech Republic claimed last month that Villa want to sign the 23-year-old.
Emiliano Martinez is the first-choice goalkeeper at Villa at the moment.
The former Arsenal player, who won the 2022 Qatar World Cup with Argentina, is one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League.
Villa manager Unai Emery has goalkeeper Robin Olsen at his disposal as well.
Olsen, a Sweden international, is 33 now.
Martinez is 30 and has also been linked with moves away from Villa in the summer transfer window.
Aston Villa to miss out on Manchester United goalkeeper Matej Kovar
We are not surprised that Villa are interested in Kovar.
Kovar has yet to make an impact in the United first team, but he has done well in his loan spells away from Old Trafford.
The youngster has been out on loan at Swindon Town, Burton Albion and Sparta Prague in recent seasons.
Kovar would be a good signing for Villa and could develop under Emery and learn from Martinez.
However, it seems that the youngster is on his way to Bayer Leverkusen.
According to 90min, Kovar will undergo a medical with Bayer and then complete his move to the Bundesliga club.
The German side will reportedly pay United £7.8 million in transfer fees for the goalkeeper.
The Red Devils will have a buy-back clause, according to the report.
