Aston Villa set to unveil Clement Lenglet chirt number before the sales slam shut

Unai Emery comments on Clement Lenglet as Aston Villa set to confirm transfer

Unai Emery has confirmed Clement Lenglet is set to become Aston Villa’s latest summer addition.

Lenglet will be the club’s fifth signing of the window following the arrivals of Youri Tielemans, Pau Torres, Moussa Diaby and Nicolo Zaniolo. He will add much-needed depth to Emery’s defensive options after Tyrone Mings suffered a serious knee injury on the opening weekend of the season earlier this month.

The 28-year-old was signed by Monchi at Sevilla in 2017 in a deal worth €5million from French club Nancy, before Barcelona paid his €35million release clause just 18 months later. He is now set to be unveiled as a deadline day signing for Villa following a spell on loan at Tottenham Hotspur last season.

“It’s not completely signed, but he is close to signing with us and joining us,” Emery said. “It’s a player who can help us, and after the injury we had with Tyrone Mings, he can sub him in the squad.”

Lenglet made 27 appearances for Tottenham last term, and also played seven games in the Champions League. The defender has experience of European football having made 50 Champions League appearances in his career.

He might not be the final addition which Villa makes to Emery’s squad on deadline day, with the club looking to replace the outgoing Philippe Coutinho.

The Brazilian is close to joining Qatari side Al Duhail just a year after joining Villa on a permanent basis in a deal worth £18million from Barcelona.
