Aaron Hickey, a Scotland international, is apparently being chased by Premier League opponents Brentford, Manchester United, Liverpool, and Arsenal.
During the 2017 summer transfer window, the Bees defeated competition to secure Hickey from Serie A side Bologna for almost £18 million.
Hickey rose through the Hearts ranks, and since making his senior debut last year, he has earned 11 Scotland caps.
The 21-year-old earned 26 appearances for Brentford during his first season in 2022–2023; however, he is starting this campaign with increased prominence.
Left-back Due to Rico Henry’s significant injury, Hickey will likely have more opportunities this year. He has started each of Brentford’s first six Premier League games.
The Sunday Mirror reports that ‘Arsenal, Liverpool, and Manchester United are all ready to make bids’ for the Scottish international. Hickey was connected with a number of teams around Europe before he signed for Brentford. The report continues.
The three top Premier League teams as well as German powerhouse Bayern Munich have expressed interest in the Bees full defender due to his strong performances for both club and country.
Frank will dread losing Hickey, particularly given the rising likelihood that goal-scoring monster Ivan Toney will be offloaded in the January transfer window after his gambling suspension is through. Toney, who would cost more than £60 million, is reportedly attracting attention from clubs like Arsenal, Chelsea, and Tottenham.
“It’s the same story for Hickey as well, with the Bees probably going to demand somewhere around £50m before they even think about starting discussions,”
According to the report, Toney will likely depart Brentford in the upcoming winter transfer window.
Toney will be able to play again at the beginning of January, but he may have already played his final match for Brentford. If Hickey also leaves the London club, it will be a further blow. The defender is “going in the right direction,” according to Bees head coach Thomas Frank, who recently lauded him.
There is a lot of debate over whether Aaron is a left-back or a right-back, but Frank is in the fortunate position of knowing that he can play on both sides and will most likely go to the left.
We don’t have many full-backs, so he is vital. He is both-footed and possesses tremendous skill. He is a player we recruited a year ago, and his future is bright and moving in the correct path for him.
