According to La Gazzetta dello Sport, Caldara will be available to Pioli for the games against Newcastle, PSG, and Borussia Dortmund after spending the previous two seasons on loan with Venezia and Spezia.
His contract ends in June, and he is currently the sixth centre-back in the hierarchy, but he is important for European lists because he grew up in an Italian club’s junior system, like Alessandro Florenzi, Marco Sportiello, and Antonio Mirante.
UEFA requires a set number of academy-trained players from both the club and the country in which the club is headquartered, which you may read about here.
The list will have 23 players and must be provided by midnight, with amendments allowed until 12 noon tomorrow. Three players have been ruled out: Ismael Bennacer (knee injury) and the two newcomers, Marco Pellegrino and Luka Romero.
Maignan, Mirante, and Sportiello are the goalkeepers.
Calabria, Caldara, Florenzi, Kalulu, Kjaer, Theo Hernandez, Thiaw, Tomori are the defenders.
Adli, Krunic, Loftus-Cheek, Musah, Pobega, and Reijnders are the midfielders.
Chukwueze, Giroud, Jovic, Leao, Okafor, and Pulisic are the forwards.
