AC Milan are perhaps not as young as they were a couple of years ago during the lockdown-affected season, but they are still far younger than rival teams.
Ever since Elliott Management took over the club in 2018 the emphasis of the ownership – something which has continued into RedBird Capital’s tutelage – has been to invest in young talent.
During the 2020-21 season, when calculating the average age using the usual starting XI, the Rossoneri were at 24 years and 323 days which made them the thirdyoungest team in Europe in the ‘top five’ leagues.
The age of the Milan team is now 25.7 years, based on an average of the 28 players who officially make up the squad. While this is slightly higher than the 2020-21 season, it is not by much, and it places them as the 10th-youngest team in Serie A.
How does it compare to competitors?Inter are the league’s oldest team, having been in existence for 28.2 years, with Lazio coming in second at 27. Roma (26.7 points) and Juventus (26.6 points) round out the top five. Surprisingly, Atalanta is at 26.2 while Napoli is at 26.
Milan is thus the only one of Italy’s ‘top seven’ clubs with an average age of less than 26.
