Following NFL Trade Deadline, Green Bay Packers Connected With…

The Green Bay Packers may be looking at a “lost” season in 2023.  Granted, a season that appears to be “lost” can yield valuable insights; that being said, a team may also decide to take a different path due to a dearth of information.

That is exactly what one analyst seems to think the Packers will do after this season regarding the quarterback position.

With seven starts in 2023, Jordan Love has a 2-5 record, 1,492 passing yards, 11 touchdowns, 8 interceptions, and a 57.7 completion percentage.

Many observers and fans believe Love will not be in Green Bay for the entire season based on what they have seen so far.

Charles Robinson of Yahoo Sports highlighted how this could happen:

Three specific fits could come into play, given their current quarterback situations and the fact that they feature an offense rooted in the coaching tree and scheme of Kyle Shanahan:

The San Francisco 49ers, Green Bay Packers and Los Angeles Rams. There’s also the Miami Dolphins to consider, if Tua Tagovailoa suffered another string of concussions.

Of course, that’s all speculation at the moment, much like the potential need for Cousins elsewhere.

Anything could happen over the remainder of the season, but it will be worth seeing how the quarterback situations play out for the Vikings, 49ers, Rams, Packers and Dolphins.

Of that group, the Dolphins and Tagovailoa appear set for extension negotiations next offseason, barring any kind of injury that would jeopardize his career.

Stafford and the Rams also appear to be in good shape, although his UCL sprain again raises the specter of an elbow problem that clouds his future.

At the very least, there will be renewed questions about whether Stafford will consider retirement next offseason.

Meanwhile, the Packers will continue to get an extended look at Jordan Love, but if the current trend of mediocrity continues and Green Bay isn’t in position to draft another quarterback in April, veteran bridge options would almost certainly be on the table for 2024.

Is It True That The Packers Would Want Cousins?

In short, most likely not.  I would be absolutely shocked if the Packers give up on Jordan Love after one year no matter what their record is at the end of the year.

The coaching staff has seen growth from the 25-year-old quarterback every year he has been with the team.  No one expected the team to win a Super Bowl in his first year starting, they just wanted to see enough to commit to at least one more year.

The Packers won a Super Bowl with Aaron Rodgers three years after he took over the starting job.  I figure they would give Love at least that long to show he can be “the guy” in Green Bay.

Additionally, the Packers added many weapons around Love that are around his age.  Their hope is to see those weapons all grow with Love over the next few years.  It is very unlikely they give up on that growth after just one year.
