They Have don so Greatly: Joel Matip assesses Liverpool’s summer…

Joel Matip, who is a big fan of Liverpool’s summer acquisitions, says all four of the new players have ‘done excellently’.

The Reds made changes to their midfield during the summer window, saying farewell to James Milner, Wataru Endo, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain, Jordan Henderson, and Fabinho and welcoming Alexis Mac Allister, Dominik Szoboszlai, and Ryan Gravenberch to Anfield.

The club branded “Liverpool 2.0” has had a great start to the 2023–24 Premier League season, winning five of their first eight games and only behind the leaders by three points.

Speaking to the official matchday program for Liverpool, Matip praised the influence of the newcomers.

All of the new players have settled in well,” the defender stated.

Dom and Macca have been playing for much the whole duration, and they have done so masterfully. You can see that they have made excellent adaptations when playing both with and against the ball.

Granted, they’ve done it in their former clubs as well, but they’ve never really seemed to fit in here.

Although Wataru and Ryan arrived later, they have already demonstrated their ability to assist us.

The new players have all performed quite well thus far, and I can’t wait to watch them play.

Despite a respectable start to the season, Matip emphasized that the Reds will be “going for” all four tournaments this year and added that they are still not at the level they want to be.

We have four competitions ahead of us and we want to be as successful as possible in all of them,” Matip said.

We want to pursue all options, but we have no idea what will ultimately succeed or fail. We are only thinking about our upcoming game and trying our hardest to perform as best as we can.

Our season has started off well in terms of points, but during the course of the first ninety-plus minutes, we haven’t played to our full potential.

In the end, we have frequently turned things around, so it’s encouraging to know that we still possess those qualities. But as a defender, I’m hoping we can win games while maintaining a few clean sheets.
